London Wedding Photography: My Favourite Spots for couple Portraits That Aren’t Cheesy AF
Let’s be honest, so many couples hate the thought of having their portraits taken. Don’t worry, I get it! That’s why I’m here to tell you that it doesn’t have to be that way, they can be fun and be something you actually enjoy! Let me share some reasons why.
As a London wedding photographer, I’ve got the lowdown on some of the best spots in the city to capture some epic portraits of you being, well, you. From gritty graffiti streets in East London to the timelessness of Georgian terraces of Kensington, let’s take a little tour of my London wedding photography and some of my favourite spots for portraits that aren’t cheesey AF… guaranteed to keep things cool, fun, and authentically you.

East London Vibes: Dalston, Hackney & Shoreditch
Ah, East London. It’s the place where you can grab a flat white at an awesome independent café, spot people in the most fashionable outfits that make you feel old and boring and stumble upon some of the coolest wedding portrait backdrops all in one afternoon.
Dalston, Hackney, and Shoreditch are packed with character and have a gritty charm that screams, “This is for untraditional couples planning an untraditional wedding”
Graffiti-covered walls make for brilliant, vibrant backdrops for London wedding photography which is perfect if you want something bold, edgy, and just a little rebellious for your portraits.
One of my favourites is Hackney. This place just makes you feel relaxed, not trying to be something it isn’t. The iconic Hackney Town Hall is the perfect place to say I DO!
Then there’s Shoreditch, with its quirky side streets and that iconic industrial vibe that somehow manages to be effortlessly cool and utterly romantic at the same time. Don’t forget the epic graffiti you’ll find everywhere!
And Dalston? Well, Dalston’s got that laid-back, alternative energy that’s perfect for couples who are a bit less princess ballgown and a bit more Doc Martens under the wedding dress.
Basically, if you want your wedding portraits to say we’re madly in love but we also know where to find the best vegan tacos, East London is your jam!
Georgian Terrace Houses
Now, let’s switch things up a bit. While East London is all edgy and alternative, the streets of Georgian terrace houses scattered across London bring a whole different energy to the table.
Think timeless, classy, and a little bit Bridgeton (but without the fancy wigs and masquerade balls). These gorgeous rows of white townhouses are pure architectural elegance and make for a stunning, minimalist backdrop to your London wedding photography.
Streets like those in Islington or Kensington are my go-tos for this kind of vibe. There’s just something about those pastel doorways and wrought-iron railings that adds a touch of romance without looking overly staged or try-hard.
Plus, the clean, classic aesthetic lets you as a couple shine through – no distractions, just the two of you looking amazing and in love.
Along the River Thames
It wouldn’t be a London wedding without a nod to the city’s iconic landmarks, would it? Enter…the River Thames. From the stunning views of Tower Bridge to the Southbank’s lively atmosphere, the riverbanks offer endless options for London wedding photography that are both romantic and undeniably London.
One of my favourite things about shooting along the Thames is how much variety there is. Fancy something grand and epic? Head to the area around Westminster Bridge with the Houses of Parliament in the background – it’s practically begging to be in your wedding album. Want something a bit quieter and more intimate? A stroll along the Thames Path near Richmond gives you all the riverside charm without the crowds.
There’s a reason so many love stories have played out along this river – it’s iconic, it’s atmospheric, and there’s just something so magical about watching the sunlight dance off the water as you pose for your portraits.
Bars and Cafes
Look, not every wedding portrait has to involve a grand sweeping view or a perfectly curated backdrop. Sometimes, the best photos come from the moments where you’re just being yourselves. That’s where bars and cafes come in – they’re cosy, intimate, and full of personality. Plus, they make great spots for those storytelling shots where it feels like we’re capturing a little slice of your real life.
East London, of course, is brimming with cool bars and cafes that double as killer portrait locations. Fancy an industrial vibe? Let’s hit up a Shoreditch coffee shop with exposed brick walls and vintage furniture. Want to add a touch of romance to the mix? A candlelit wine bar is the way to go. Or maybe you’re up for something a bit cheekier, like clinking cocktails at one of Dalston’s rooftop bars as the sun sets.
What I love about these locations is how natural and relaxed they fee for London wedding photographyl. It’s not about striking a pose but about capturing the connection between the two of you in a way that feels genuine and effortless.
And hey, there’s usually good coffee or cocktails involved, so really, it’s a win-win.
